Florida Department of Pari-Mutuel Wagering
VIA FAX:
Attn: Roy Logan, Director of Operations 850.488.0550

Dear Mr. Logan,

The Greyhound Protection League has just received information that a Florida dog track has once again been the scene of horrible "mishaps" to greyhound racing dogs.

Here are the details as they were reported to our organization:

Naples Fort Meyers Greyhound Track, afternoon race card, November 1, 2003

* Sixth race
* The number six dog, Plinko Drive, a three-year-old red brindle female from the Bussman Kennel became entangle with another dog and suffered a severe injury. Some reports indicate that her leg was severed and that she bled to death on the track.

* Seventh race
* The number 8 dog, Solitary Hattie, a three-year-old dark brindle female from the Callahan kennel suffered a broken leg.

It has been reported to us that no veterinarian was on duty or was available to relieve the pain and suffering of either of these greyhounds. The absence of a veterinarian during official races is a clear violation of Florida pari-mutuel regulations. Recalling the February 2000 death of a greyhound named Tune Me In, it is not the first time that the Naples track has failed to provide proper veterinary care for its injured race dogs.

The Greyhound Protection League is requesting that the Pari-Mutuel Division launch an immediate investigation into this situation.

Respectfully,

Susan Netboy, President 888.842.4404
